Trabzonspor was formed on 2 August 1967 after the long-running effort to unite major football clubs in Trabzon. The club’s official history records the merger of İdmanocağı, İdmangücü, Karadenizgücü and Martıspor under the claret-and-blue colours.
The club went on to reshape Turkish football by carrying the league championship to Anatolia in the 1970s and building a strong identity around Trabzon and the Black Sea region.
