Standard de Liège traces its history to 1898, when students from Collège Saint-Servais in Liège created a new football club. The club’s official history says the name “Standard” was chosen by vote and that red and white became its colours from the beginning.
Standard developed into one of the major institutions of Belgian football, building a long top-flight history and a supporter culture centred on Sclessin.
